Golden Moon Milk for Insomnia & Anxiety Ridden Friends

Attention fellow anxious, insomniac, and sleep deprived friends!  Nutmeg might be your new best friend ;). Nutmeg contains essential oils and compounds that tell our body to relax and slow down. I made this drink on Wednesday before bed and it was the best sleep I’ve gotten in a reallllly long time!  I didn’t notice I was sleeping bad until I slept really good.

I’m going to call this Golden Moon Milk! ;)

Recipe:

-1 cup milk substitute (I used unsweetened almond milk)

-1 tsp. Nutmeg

-1 tsp. Cinnamon

-1 tsp. Turmeric

-1 tsp. Ghee (omit if vegan)

 

Heat the milk & all ingredients on a low flame until it’s warm.   Let it cool, strain it into your favorite mug, and add honey when it is at a drinkable temperature.  (if you add it before then the honey will act like a glue on your insides-yuck!) Drink & Enjoy!

Insomnia is generally a sign of vata imbalance, and ghee is really good for bringing vata back into balance! It helps to nourish our tissues, lubricate the internal body and makes our digestive fire strong.

I used to have insomnia every night, I relied on melatonin for years! Now, I drink this drink once in a while if I’m feeling anxious and I’ve been a good sleeper ever since! Ever since learning about Ayurveda, my digestion and insomnia issues have dramatically improved. You can also add one date instead of honey, but I didn’t have any!
